SOLOMON'S A PUSSY

Who would have believed it ? ( well us for starters....) Mark Solomon is doing all he can to delay the inevitable - reports the NZ Herald today being voted out by his own runanga which means he would not only lose the title of Kaiwhakahaere( chair) but he would also lose his seat at the ruling table.
It is disgraceful that he has not promoted an election and fought it like a man.

Again he has fallen short of what is required of a leader.

We have also considered that the Ngai Tahu voting system is nothing ( sorry mum) but a cluster fuck... It gives too much power to too few for too long.

It has ended up this way because the incumbents will normally be the ones to benefit from confusion..

Hopefully this time round we will have a ruling council we can be proud of.

As someone said to me - it's not his job to run the election.

18 runanga elections were to be held by all runanga ,and their appointment commitee chosen, plus their tront rep and deputy decided by the end of october and the position of kaiwhakahaere was to be voted on in early nov this year.

All this year on the Ngai tahu elections website, an elections program could be viewed. On this plan, kaikoura has shown no details or timeline of there election process.

All that was said was that Kaikoura runanga was in talks with the whakapapa unit.

At some point in oct 2009 Kaikoura was suddenly granted an extension.Wally stone ,Tahu potiki arrived back at the tront table, and his position of kaiwhakahaere suddenly was realisticly threatened.Teina shit his pants.

Facing a fresh kaiwhakahaere vote and quite possibly his last hui a tau as the lone ranger,a postponed election falls out of the sky?

Words fail me.

And to you marty mars your wrong.Alot of the election proccess is in the hands of individual marae.Read the election website details.Marae can use a whakapapa list provided by the tront whakapapa unit,or it can use a voting roll of its own creation."Some marae will just take your right to voe as a given" is one off the answers given under election Q+A .

If mark and Takahanga dont know who belongs to that marae, and after decades of whakapapa unit research and a list being provided , as well as 9 months of discussions between them all, then it is very hard to see a fair representation of members getting a chance to vote on that particular marae.

Its worthy to note that if a marae is not holding elections in the manner put forth by tront, their representative and deputy can be removed until such time as a legal and legitamite are held.

Well done to those who have held elections , and that are trying to restore some of the Mana, that Mark and his merry band of devoted cult followers have managed to destroy of what once was a well regarded tribe.

BB you are being a bit slow in connecting the dots. Two articles in three days concerning NT both from the Herald. Why would the Herald be so interested in a South Island iwi? The answer is Jon Stokes ex Herald reporter who was behind Tahu Potiki and others in an attempt to discredit Tront in March this year. But they were exposed. They are at it again gunning for Mark Solomon
As for the Kaikoura elections, its not Mark Solomon's job to hurry things along- he is a candidate. Knowing the Runanga they are making are much better job of getting it right than others have done.
Any word on your Runanga-Awarua-BB? A brief look at NT website it says "No updates to hand" - or compared to all other Runanga nothing is happening. Perhaps you ought to get down there liven things up a little- not a good look being last.

Marty Mars - Is it not his own runanga?
As their representative on the TRONT board shouldnt he ensure that his own whanau and runanga are up to date and up to play with processes that TRONT set - and need i remind you he is the current chair of TRONT. If he doesnt know what to do and who to delegate to, and how to share practical info within his own whanau so they can run an honest election - then serious questions need to be asked about this bloke! It's like hes too scared to allow an honest election to happen! I wonder why?

@ anon1 - you say I'm wrong - LOL - what exactly am i wrong about?

Being pussy is only one of Mark Solomons issues!! It does not take a rocket scientist to see that an election in Kaikoura by Te Runanga O Kaikoura would be not in the interest of Mark, he has for many months stalled & played power games to try & ensure is chances r at their highest of keeping his position as their rep. For if he is not their rep then he can no longer be the Kaiwhakahaere, a position we have all seen he will do ANYTHING to keep............

Thats right marty, it isnt his job to run elections.

As the Chairman of the tront board , and as a representative for the descendants of Takahanga runanga on the tront board ,one only expects an honest ,on time election to have happened .Every other marae is well into their election process .Admittedly some runanga are still to confirm some final details . For Takahanga though , letters to members inviting them to vote have not even been issued.

I find it so hard to believe that after much discussion amonst the iwi for electoral voting and reform that an excuse of misinformation has been stated as the marae escape goat.

Stalling tatics have been marks lifesaver over the last five to six years.Everytime the furnace gets hot ,a quick retreat and silence till the next fiasco.

Tront isnt a game of monopoly. Its supposed to be the mechanism to protect the peoples assets,to see the asset base grow , and fairly contribute to those of this time ,the ones not here yet , and most importantly make proud those past on,that their legacy is in good hands.

If Tront could have avoided the childish boardroom antics of some board members , and focused on the job at hand we might have a billon dollars to the tribes name by now.

Like all Ngai Tahu Marty we all just want to see progress , see people getting along with their fellow relatives and fell secure that everything is in trusted hands.

I agree with you all and just want fair elections where our people actually get a say. Both Kaikoura and Awarua are showing little progress on the timetable-chart. This is not good and should be sorted ASAP.

Anonymous, your connecting of Jon Stokes to the current Maori Affairs reporter at the NZ Herald is simplistic drivel.

It also demeans the status of your own iwi. Why wouldn't the Maori Affairs reporter of the country's biggest newspaper - which also has the country's largest news website traffic - be interested in the country's richest tribe in times of turmoil.

In regards to anonymous and New Zealand Herald. You must have issues getting past the first dot!
Let me correct you, the articles in the NZ Herald have nothing to do with Jon Stokes, you all are quick to poke the finger and sway from the real issues at hand...
We want to restore honour and mana within the tribe which means the truth needs to be told.
How do I know Jon Stokes has nothing to do with it.. well I should as I spoke to the reporter myself.
Mark Solomon has bought nothing but shame to our people and its time to rectify all the damage he has done.

Thank him and his super overpaid PR team for putting Ngai Tahu in the lime light..

Kapai..
