TVNZ UPS THE ANTE ON RUGBY COVERAGE BID

We woke up this morning ready to go into bat again re the Maori Television bid.

We have heard from a couple of sources this morning that TVNZ has prepared another bid that is bigger than the MTV bid. Whic begs the question - where did they get the money? They are bloody near broke and any expenditure means less dividends to the government so they are effectively spending government money.

We know that Maori TV went to TVNZ to try and work a joint compromise but they turned it down.

However we understand that TVNZ did not approach MTV to be part of this latest bid.

So who is playing politics now? John Key and McCully should bang a few heads together and get MTV and TVNZ to work together.

This sentence from Audreys column
this morning pretty well sum the whole saga up for us.

The meddling by the Government has caused widespread resentment on the Maori side - the rules change as soon as Maori look as though they are winning.

Well now it appears TVNZ doesnt want to share the sandpit - shame on them.

QANTAS - PICKINS FOR ALL

We are delighted to see some mates and some people we genuinely admire get a Qantas, Like Phil Kitchin, Fran O'Sullivan and Audrey Young.

But shit with the depleting ranks of dead tree scribes, isn't it time the awards just centred on a few big awards instead a catagory for everything from the best story on pimple popping to how to wash your undies?

Disclaimer - and no we never won a Qantas and yes we did enter from time to time. But we have won other stuff.

And we agree with Cactus
- its time for some blogging awards.

Audrey is my hero

Audrey Young at the Herald shows that she is in top form again with her latest coverage of this complicated story.. And it points to more lies by Winston....

The formerly secret Spencer Trust may have paid the $40,000 court costs awarded against Winston Peters in his unsuccessful Tauranga electoral petition against National MP Bob Clarkson.
Such a payment would have been perfectly legal but it would be at odds with what the privileges committee has previously been told by Mr Peters, the New Zealand First leader, and his lawyer Brian Henry.
And a declaration to Parliament may have been required.

All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing’

Bustedblonde is curious who else was at that table in Karaka ..

Audrey Young from the Herald has a good interview with Paul Moroney the trainer who heard Winstons exchange with Owen Glenn...

It would be interesting to find out when his sister and MP Sue
Moroney shared what she knew with the PM.

Mr Moroney said when the story broke and he saw Mr Peters' continued denials he realised he had crucial knowledge. "I said to people: 'I am staggered by what's happening here'."
He then made a "personal decision" to tell Mr Glenn what he knew knowing he was coming to New Zealand to appear before Parliament's privileges committee - but never spoke to him directly, dealing only briefly with an assistant.
Mr Moroney swore an affidavit of his recollections of Mr Peters thanking Mr Glenn as they sat together at the Karaka yearly sales in 2006.
Mr Glenn provided it to the committee as corroborating evidence on Tuesday.
Mr Moroney said he expected a backlash from the racing community as Mr Peters was a popular minister.
"This is not about the racing industry. This is about the truth. And I cannot walk away from the truth."

The Herald finds out that the NZ First bean counter had some concerns a fedw months back

The Dom Post finds out that bullying is alive and well in NZ First and two staffers left. Busted Blonde wonders what they know? Reporter Tim Donoghue is a reporter who knows a good yarn when he sees one...

Maybe the stench of very dead scampi was too much to bear.

And Glenn has arrived according to the Dom

So its going to be a very entertaining week .. busted blonde knows of people who are flying into Wellington just to see the show!
