GOOD BUSINESS, AND HUMANE

Peter Dunne is in the thrall of ground hunters. He is spitting vitriol over helicopter hunting of deer, chamois and tahr from Helicopters. He calls it barbaric and inhumane.

“For years helicopter operators have got away with this inhumane, barbaric practice and now DoC have not only legitimised it, but they have given it priority over other forms of recreation.”

“The real hypocrisy is that for wilderness areas such as the Adams, Hooker Landsborough and Olivines where other people are not even allowed fly-in access DoC has allowed heli-hunters an unprecedented right to use helicopters.”

His argument around helicopter access for all in remote areas is very valid but his claims that helicopter shooting is inhumane and barbaric are just fatuous and silly.

A helicopter doesnt kill the animals - a bullet does. Just as a bullet kills from a gun from a ground shooter.

Bullet enters animal - animal dies - not matter where it comes from.

The ground hunting industry is being very precious. Many large estate owners sell hunting rights to smaller blocks - in what is known in the trade as " paddock assassinations."

So it doesn't matter if you take a cut lunch and a compass or a cut lunch compass and a chopper - the result is the same - dead animals - in fact Helicopter hunting is far more efficient. Much of the territory that both the chamois and tahr occupy is hell in the hills. Even a skills tramper is going to have trouble accessing it.

What Mr Dunne is overlooking is that helicopter hunting brings in some serious dollars for New Zealand. People pay big money for the chance to ping off a big game beast from an aerial armchair.

And shooting from a chopper isn't easy. In fact it can be quite difficult - it requires a degree of skill and nerve by the pilot and shooter.

These animals are recognised as a resource now but the fact remains, their numbers need to be kept under control so more hunting is good. And helicopters have a serious part to play in keeping numbers down to a manageable level.

Shooters from choppers can also target the best trophies as well - and we wonder if its not a little jealousy on the part of the ground hunting lobby that is coming into play here.

There is no " ripoff" as everyone is paying their dues and there is a win - win in terms of animal management.

So Mr Dunne - we want to know - is you puffy posturing on this related in any way to donations you are getting from a small segment of the hunting community?

SOUTHLANDER IN THE THICK OF AUSSIE BUSHFIRES

We grew up with David Latham, we were all part of the Otatara horsey set. He flies muttonbirders as well. He is a pilot with some significant flying experience under his belt so we are not surprised to see that he has been helping out across the Tasman to fight the bush fires. Helipro also has a couple of machines in Aussie as well that are used for firefighting.

GOOD BIRTHDAY PRESENT FOR OLD BUGGERS

Dads birthday falls on Boxing day - this year sis and I decided to give him an introductory helicopter flight with his instructor grandson who works for Helipro.
We left Rangitumau and headed over the hills to Paraparaumu. We decided to take the hairaising but stunningly scenic Akatarawa route. Don't ever attempt it if you suffer from irritable bowel syndrome.

Anyway Dad, 73, was up and away within minutes of us getting to the Paraparaumu airport. They flew over Kapiti Island and watched a school of tuna. Dad flew the helicopter by himself.

He has flown in helicopters hundreds of times but never with his grandson and he has never had the opportunity to fly himself. We took the more sedate Heywoods Road back across the divide and Dad grinned the whole way home. It was one of those days that will be indelibly stamped on the family's collective memory.

WE WISH WE WERE PRIME MINISTER

We fly a lot - BB's, son flys helicopters, There is a flying vet in the family as well, but today we were very very jealous of John Key. The lucky bugger got to ride in the Jump seat of a 737 from Auckland to Wellington. Journos up the front of the bus ( and BB ) were hoping the new PM may end up sitting in one of many empty seats but no - he ended up in the front, front seat with the pilots. We have long harboured a secret desire to fly with the fly boys.

He looked good, fresh and alert. We hope he picks a good fresh alert cabinet as well.

POLICE DECISION NO SURPRISE

Winston is still a corrupt creep.

A LITTLE SCAMPI TELLS US THERE IS MORE ON WINNIE IN THE DOM TOMORROW

WELL THIS IS AN INTERESTING STORY

We here at Roarprawn had as nice lunch down by the sea today and on our way home we were given this story that appeared in May of this year in the Dominion.
and this one here
and this one here

For a start, we didn't quite get the significance - we are blonde - other than being a really intriguing story about someone who was accused of being naughty overseas , who got whisked back here so he didn't get hurt and that MFAT was a bit surprised he got a security clearance again. He ended up back in government service working of all things for Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries. Then the penny dropped - he was there at about the time the Hoki allocation was decided .Wow, we bet he knows lots about lots of people and stuff.

FAO AND BIGGER FISH

Wellington Hive does a good job of joining the dots this morning in light of the Peter Dunne expose.
We agree, more questions need to be asked about Winstons visit to the FAO on his way to watching boxing in Las Vegas - a trip we reckon he didn't pay for.

Peters now is a PROVEN liar. With pictures. We cannot believe a thing he says or has said in the past. Not that WE ever did but too often he has been given the benefit of the doubt by the media and the general public and we wonder how long his own MP's will stand by him now.

And Helen continues to back a bone fide liar. - Well thats going to be a government you can trust - not.

DID VELA "OWN" MORE THAN ONE MP?

Apparently. According to Stuff this morning Mr Dunne was a recipient of Velas largesse - What is really disturbing is Mr Dunnes selective memory. We remember the events pretty well. It was a very interesting time. We learnt a lot.
And it appears that Winstons memory is as holey as swiss cheese as well. We find it amazing that anyone can forget about flying in an helicopter and as Peter Talleys helicopter is pretty flash it would be pretty hard to forget flying in it. Or Velas chopper which had lovely leather seats in it - BB never forgot flying in Velas helicopter. We know him as a very generous man with a wonderful wine cellar and a lovely wee boat. Oh look! the Herald has a pic of the chopper! Maybe that will help Winston remember.

We also agree with the Greens - there is a need for an inquiry.

And we have been asked to moderate our language here at RoarPrawn by the Old Tassy devil - so we will - but we want to ask one more question - Where they bloody hell is the SFO?????

And we havent forgotten Hoki and a wee few bits and pieces which will no doubt see the light of day this week. We have just been a bit busy gardening and perusing old documents. Trouble is when they fade a bit they are hard to read. And there is just sooo many of them.

Ka Kite Ano BB

OO ARRGH !

Well we said this story in the Herald was coming, at midnite last night. The interesting thing is that NZ First MP's are not used to speaking out ( nor are they allowed to) so the fact that they are saying anything at all means that these MP's are thinking about their own integrity and futures in light of the latest revelations.

FARRAR ASKS SOME VERY IMPORTANT QUESTIONS ABOUT WINSTON

Busted blonde et al have places to go today - gardens to dig, documents to read.
So , if you want to know how serious the latest Winston - policy for donation scandal is - Read Kiwiblog here

And the Hive here

PRAWNS SWIM IN CHAMAPGNE.

Today is the day Roarprawn and Bustedblonde hoped would come. We got word late last night that Phil Kitchin was to break the Winston - Vela donation scandal wide open. We posted the picture of Euminedes at midnight.

There is nothing in the stories that surprises us. We knew all along what had happened, we just never had enough documentation.

Years ago, one of the Prawns had a conversation with Philip Vela about working with politicians and making sure that they did their best for the Seafood industry.
Velas comments were chilling.
He said simply - "Dont worry about Winston - I own him."

We never forgot it and, as the years past , like so many others, we saw Winston for what he was - corrupt.

Congratulations to Phil Kitchin .

Now I just hope that every branch of Grey Power get out there and says to its members to think very carefully before they vote.
Our country is largely corruption free and if Winston is not returned to parliament it will remain so.

Goff, Unmanned Choppers and The Truth

Good on Jock Anderson at NZ Truth - he is still the Rottweiler of NZ journalism. And it looks like there is something to this yarn about dodgy unmanned military helicopters being built here ... and funded by the Foundation for Research Science and Technology ( FORST)

GOFF IGNORANT OF CHOPPER PROJECT
LIKE a startled possum caught in
headlights, Defence Minister Phil Goff doesn’t know if unmanned missile-armed military
helicopters were built under his very nose by an ex-MP funded by the taxpayer.
And he’s not bothered about it. “Talk to my press officer,” was Goff’s off-hand
retort when confronted by Truth as he raced from an Auckland media conference
called to promote anti-gang law. “I know nothing at all about it... No, no, I
have never dealt with it... Nothing has come across my desk... Put it in
writing...I have never seen it... It’s nothing I have committed money to...”
said Goff. Despite repeated promises for months from press officer Richard Trow,
Goff has failed to say if the government approved the building of unmanned
military helicopters and missiles in New Zealand, or even if the government knew
a private military weapons business was operating here

Read more at Truth here

Jock can smell a good yarn from 10 kms so keep a watch on this one.
