MERIDIAN - BAD FORM

This isn't very smart... We are big supporters of Powershop - a subsidiary of the SOE Meridian.

Meridian is a company that has managed to carve a nice wee niche out in the market by getting into " sustainable renewable energy projects" Project that are often subsidised.

Anyway, its a well known fact that this blog supports the government exploring the mineral potential of  this country .

So it was with some surprise that we find Meridian,  the Govt owned company, taking a swipe at the government on the Powershop website with an anti mining power pack. We think that this is very bad form.

They need a telling off..

POWERSHOP

We have been with Powershop for about 8 months now - its fantastic. We have found it easy transparent and we are confident that its saving us money .
We live in a two bedroom apartment and run the washing machine, dryer and the dish washer daily.

Oct $95.35
Nov $82.61
Dec $73.85
Jan $73.01
Feb $73.33

We reckon the savings have been substantive. But its also the interactions with Powershop that we like .. The service is fantastic. We reckoned it was so good we endorsed it on their website. And the sign up was very easy and they deal with your old supplier. Can't get better than that.

And they are running this competition so if you join to go into the draw to win $4000.

The only quibble we would have is all the " save the planet" products they have. We think they have dubious merit.

TURN OUT THE LIGHTS

It was inevitable that this would happen - On the back of sweeping changes to disconnection procedures after the untimely death of Folole Muliaga, half the bloody reprobates around the country have tried to claim " medical need " to stop being disconnected from their power supply for unpaid bills.

We are really angry about this. If power companies are having to spend thousands on establishing medical need and then on top of that, not getting paid for power people are using, then that means that people who pay their power bills like us, end up paying more.

We are paying for the loafers and the down right fraudsters sucking off a system made loose by an over reaction. The sick part of this is those in genuine need have probably had to wait to be declared medically dependent on power while all the leeches are weeded out of the system.

Mercury Energy has approved just 1500 claims by customers wanting to be registered as medically dependent, out of 10,000 applications.

Energy retailers had only now sorted through most claims, Mercury general manager James Munro told the newspaper.

"The entire industry has had to work through a big bulge to get down to those who are genuinely medically dependent."

The Electricity Commission, which introduced voluntary guidelines to protect the vulnerable, is considering how to tighten up the system to stop people taking advantage of retailers while still protecting at-risk customers.

So we say all power to the Electricity Commission to sort this mess out and quick bloody smart.

WE HAVE MADE THE SWITCH

We have joined up with Powershop and its early days yet so cant really say what savings we have made ( we are pretty confident we will ) but we love the level of service. Had a wee query and it was answered in a a nanosecond or there abouts. Its also fun if you like to take a bit of a punt and guess the weather , power demand etc.

Anyway we have had the call from Genesis and it was very interesting - They wanted to know why we had made the switch. We told them that it was because we wanted a better deal. They asked ( obviously reading from a bloody script) what it would take for us to stay with Genesis -
" Money" we replied. Silence - Obviously the script writers had anticipated that answer.

Anyway go sign up here - it only takes a few minutes and they ( PowerShop ) take all the pain out of it by dealing with you old (charges like a wounded bull) power company.

WHAT A BRIGHT IDEA

We saw the same story as Motella has here the other day and came to the same conclusion. Up Earth Hour we say. Bugger the hemp undy wearing wankers - we are gonna turn on our lights too. However we will be using Powershop to get the best deal.

POWERSHOP PIONEER

We like to think of ourselves as early adapters here at Roarprawn, we like new gadgets and gizmos and keep a pretty close eye on new developments on the net. We twitter and ping and facebook. We play with all sorts of widgets that add functionality to Roarprawn.
Our latest little foray is Powershop. We are a Powershop Pioneer.
They reckon they can help us save money on our powerbill. We like that - it means we have more money to buy better bubbles when Cactus comes to visit. And that girl only drinks really good bubbles .

So anyway, a testing station and blog feedback has been set up by Scoop.

One of the things we have discovered already is that they do all the paperwork for the transfer from our current supplier Genesis to Powershop. We really like that.

Anyone who has tried to change power companies, banks, credit cards and phone companies will know that this is never easy.

So Powershop gets 8/10 for that.

We will blog on our experiences from time to time.
