KORU CLUB FOOD IS CRAP

We are sitting in the Koru lounge in Auckland and we have to say that the food is absolute crap. Mass produced cheese cake, a sweet and sour thing and rice - that can only be described as a sweet and sour thing. The salads are dead, limp - well past rigor mortis, the bread rolls are stale and they have beetroot in some mayonnaise! What is that about. It is 6pm - no cheese and crackers. Now we paid $495 for our membership this year. But its not likely we will pay that again next year - the food has been getting progressively worse.. Will need to drink wine , lots of it to make up for the crap food.

To top matters off we are are constantly reminded of the recession - the lounge is about half full at peak hour. It is so slow that the woman who mans the coffee kiosk saw an empty coffee cup by me and asked if I would like another.I told her it wasnt mine, then she asked me if I would like a nice drink anyway. Service with a lovely smile, shame about the tucker.

And the is no decent eye candy - all the good looking bronzed gods who used to frequent the lounge have obviously gone to the wall.

However Wellington will get a big cash injection this week - the NZ Seafood conference is being held in the capital -
It is being opened by the PM , its been a few years since that happened. the industry is doing okay despite the rough seas of the international money markets. We are also please to see they are still holding the seafood debates. Take BB's word for it, they are famous for being unpc and very funny!

BIG BAD BOYS AND THE LONGEST OF LUNCHES

Well bugger me, Just when when we thought one of the oldest men only lunch clubs in New Zealand had finally folded, its rises like the piss fairy from the bottle of sparkling Aussie shiraz .

Flagstaff, as we have blogged about before is one of the great Wellington institutions. A big boys pissy eyed long lunch with a ripper of a speaker. The membership is august and often international, the tone is definitely low in a high brow sort of way, and stories of big sessions are legend.

Anyway they are back, armed with speedy wheel chairs and zimmer frames, the baddest old bastards in Wellington are going to have a couple more lingering lunches.

Good on them we say . "Hip, hip" or should we say "hick hick" and all that.

WELLINGTONS MOST IMPORTANT POLITICAL PARTY

Is on tonite - the Press Gallery party is the stuff of legend. An event to be seen at but not after 10 when you are pissed with your undies round your ankles in close proximity to the speakers chair. Well so one of the stories go. . Scuttlebutt is the currency of the evening. Anyway BB has been invited as have some of the other prawns. We may blog.

POLICE NEED TO KEEP EYE ON BUDDING TERRORISTS

We read the story in the Sunday Star Times with some interest. We have been involved in the odd industry or two that have faced the wrath of activists on more than one occasion.
New Zealanders need to realise that the police are there to keep us safe and that some of the people who get involved in activism - aren't that nice. They are angry , often mentally disturbed and are quite willing to use violence to advance their various causes. While there are about 10 groups listed in the SST - there is considerable cross pollination among them and we have it on good authority that there are about 15 very odd, very violent, extreme people in the hard core of the New Zealand activist movement.

We also remain forever sceptical of anything activist Nicky Hager writes. He still does not follow any of the ethical guidelines of good journalism. So we wonder just how long that Gilchrist has been a " double" agent. What if he played at being a police informer - letting them know about stuff that was easy to find out anyway just so that some of the protesters would gain more publicity? What if the activists openly strategised about what information they would feed police through Gilchrist. ? Maybe at the behest of Hagar et al , he was sitting waiting for the best time to try and do the most damage to the police. Waiting for Hagar to cobble together a story about how vile the police were - how evil it was that they spied on " innocent" activists. The story raises many more questions than it answers.
If there is one thing we would urge all New Zealanders to believe , it is the fact that in the ranks of these odd, seemingly heroic activists, are some very very dangerous people who really do need to be watched every day.
