JESUS WEPT - SCALES , WHALES AND A DOCTOR IN THE HOUSE

Well the  Public Relations Instititute of NZ  Fellows - have a job ahead of them this year.

The nominations for  2010 Communicator of the Year are
Judge Andrew Becroft
Glynn Cardy  - Mr Jesus Billboards
Dr Lockwood Smith - the wise and benevolent standard setter for parliamentary behaviour
and Whaling issues supremo  Glenn Inwood.

We think if its down to who has changed public opinions the most  - its Glenn. Simply because a few years ago Everyone loved the anti whaling lobby and no-one loved the Japanese but  public opinion has shifted and more and more people see the anti whalers as grandstanding  wankers who are only concerned about getting the public to fund their boys own piratical fantasies.

And a few years ago we didnt think that this was possible so strong was the anti whaling sentiment - however as a  poll in The Australian showed - more people think the protesters were at fault re the Ady Gil incident.

Results: Whaling showdown

Who do you think is to blame for the collision between a Japanese whaling ship and Sea Shepherd protest boat?

  • Whalers 47.06% (1327 votes)
  • Protesters 52.94% (1493 votes)
Total votes: 2820

And there are other opinion polls that have shown a considerable shift of support for the Japanese.

So we dont think that the " PRINZ  Fellows" will have the balls to vote Glen as the communicator of the year but as far as  a long running PR campaign that has successfully shifted an enormous weight of public opinion -  Glenn wins hands down.
However we do  think that all nominees are worthy recipients.

Cardy for poking sacred cows.
Becroft for shedding  light on a dark world
And Lockwood for showing us all that MP's when treated like naughty school children can play nicely in the political sandpit if they are guided the right way.

( Note  BB is a member of Prinz but  did not nominate anyone)

TOP CHICK = TOP JOB

Suzanne  Carter  is a mate of ours and she will be a "great fit" as they say in the business,  for this job.

Tourism New Zealand Chief Executive Kevin Bowler is delighted to announce that Suzanne Carter will join Tourism New Zealand's Executive Team as General Manager Public Affairs from 10 May 2010.
This position is an integral part of Tourism New Zealand's executive team. Suzanne will be responsible for managing and leading Tourism New Zealand's media and government relations, corporate and internal communications and projects, including our involvement in the 2011 Rugby World Cup.
Suzanne previously headed New Zealand Post Group's Corporate Communications for five years. She has had an extensive and successful communications career over the last 17 years, which has included a variety of communications roles in organisations such as Telecom and AMP, as well as working as an independent consultant.

We need to capitalise on our tourism and we are confident she will make her mark on the organisation and will help NZ lift its game  in the tourism stakes...

THE GREAT PRETENDER

Our mate David Farrar has been having a nosebag courtesy of Ngai Tahu. He told me in passing earlier this week that he was a guest of the PR firm that Mark Solomon hires to write all his stuff at the Wellington Chamber of Commerce celeb breakfast this week.

Its a common enough ploy of PR people to invite influential people to enjoy their hospitality. Been there and done that.

I think I suggested to David that he was dining with Ngai Tahu's spinners far too often and they were wanting to take advantage of his position as a serious media influencer. I think I was pretty rude ( actually I was ) but he took it in good grace. My position on Solomon is well documented and David accepts my right to have a differing opinion. I like that in a person.

I think, for the sake of the tribe that Solomon must go.

However it appears for a plate of Bacon and Eggs with some OJ on the side, David has succumbed yet again to the web that was woven by Team Solomon and is happy to sing the praises of Mark.

Its a shame really. A shame that better analysis and probing is not applied to the Ngai Tahu machine.

Solomon is like Helen Clark - he has past his Use By Date. Only difference is Clark was the brains behind the speeches and policy she made.

Solomon, on the other hand relies on the wit and wisdom of others. That does not an inspiring leader make.

THEY HAVE HIDDEN THEM

The Herald looks at the cap that SSC Minister Tony Ryall has imposed on the public service and has zeroed in on the communications sector. The numbers don't stack up. The government needs to insure that it takes a look at " Information departments " which are a home for all PR people who specialise in on line communications and often internal communications specialists. The trend started midway last year to shuffle communications staff around and tuck them in what is essentially an adjunct to IT departments while still churning out on line communications and in some cases publications. It was cynical ploy by comms managers to ensure that they still had a small army under their command.

So someone needs to go through all departments and ask some very specific question's to get the real answer to how many communications specialists are hiding in " non communications " groups.
