HUMBLE PIE

We blogged on Tau Henare's weird outburst over Rodney and the Super City Maori seats. At first he was very belligerent... and cocky...

But as the realisation set inabout the ramifications of his ouburst, and he had time to reflect, he ate humble pie in a very public way on Facebook..

He gets the thumbs up from us for that...

This is from Facebook...

Tau Henare
Well what a day and it aint over yet. Maybe my comments yesterday were unhelpful and on reflection i made the mistake of putting myself ahead of the issue. It aint about me. Time to move on and deal with the other issues. Tell you what, theres nothin...g better than using the night time to reflect on the days happenings. Ah well, peace be with you all.Read more

GIVE IT UP TAU GIVE IT UP...

We have been watching the very public spat between self proclaimed Westie boy Tau Henare and Rodney Hide.

Now if you like Rodney's play on the Auckland seats or not, you cant help but admire his courage in laying it on the line - he is principled and that makes him a man to admire.

However we are very unimpressed by Tau Henare's posturing
. We want to know what he has done that makes him someone we should admire. What has he done for Maori ? Bugger all from what we can see. He isn't principled enough to walk away on an issue that must gall him.
And today, to top it all off we saw him standing outside Bowen House looking all belligerent.

But that's not the thing that really pissed us off. No he was smoking. Looking like a Pall Mall pin up boy. . Having a fag where everyone could see him. Engaging in the one foul practice that kills more of his kin than anything else.

Maori seats on Auckland Super City will not save the lives of any Maori but good role models that kids can look up to , will go a long way from dissuading a generation of impressionable tamariki from taking up the habit that will shorten their life span.

Shame on you Tau, get your shit together and be the man that everyone can admire. Do something for yourself and you will do something good for your people that will make a difference.

SMOKE ON THE WATER

While the focus in the Pacific is on Fiji a protest of a different sort is happening in neighbouring Rarotonga. Trader Jack, Jack Cooper arguably operates the most popular bar and restuarant there. It is well known world wide.

Now Jack is not someone you want to piss off. But he is bloody grumpy. Appears that the Cook Island Govt is about to enact some legislation that will make the island virtually smoke free. It is a way more draconian that our laws. It essentially makes all outside areas smoke free as well. Including the beaches. So that means smokers are limited to smoking in their own homes. the law comes into effect on June 1.

Anyway Trader enacted his own wee protest in true Trader Style over Easter.

We are with Jack on this one. We are very anti tobacco but laws like this only piss people off and are unworkable.

Here is the advert for the big smoke in . Apparently it was a very very big night. Smoking Ad CI News 110409-1 Smoking Ad CI News 110409-1 bustedblonde anti tobacco, trader jacks, rarotonga

Killer Tobacco companies get a shake up from the commerce commission

'Mild' labels to be removed from tobacco

The tobacco industry has agreed to remove the words light and mild from cigarette packets after being warned about the use of the terms.
The Commerce Commission warned tobacco companies the use of the terms light and mild risked breaching the Fair Trading Act.
The commission investigated the labelling after the Smokefree Coalition lodged a complaint in July 2006.
Smokefree Coalition chairwoman Jane Patterson said she was disappointed the companies only received a warning.
"The tobacco industry has a long history of lying. In this latest example, they are misleading smokers by suggesting light and mild cigarettes have health benefits over regular or higher yield tobacco products.
"As the Commerce Commission decision points out, light and mild tobacco is likely to be just as deadly as regular tobacco."
The Ministry of Health welcomed the Commerce Commission warning.
Senior analyst of tobacco control Brendan Baker said the terms were used to promote a product which kills around 5000 New Zealanders a year.
"Ultimately, the message for smokers and those who care about them remains the same: all cigarettes are harmful, be they light or mild, tailor-made or rollies."
New Zealand research on several brands of loose tobacco showed tobacco labelled mild was just as harmful as regular tobacco, he said.
Tobacco companies had agreed to remove the terms from their New Zealand products, Mr Baker said.

Smoke fish not people

Its a well known fact I can catch, fillet and smoke my own fish and serve up a pretty good scoff.

- what is not so well known is the fact that I am very anti human smoking - have been for years.

I am saddened, that after years of battling nicotine addiction, my father will sooner or later succumb to some sort of cancer or condition related to his addiction.

So as I'm working in the health sector at the moment, I have had the chance to be a bit of an advocate for the anti tobacco cause.

Currently this government is looking at banning tobacco displays - something I'm keen to see no matter who's at the helm - its not a nanny state issue - its about kids health.

I don't see much use in chucking millions at people like my father but I do see real sense in doing every bloody thing we can to prevent our kids taking up this addiction.

Any way - I put the seed of an idea to the SUNDAY current affairs programme -

They screened part one - a good piece last week on Scottish entrepreneur Duncan Bannatyne's story on what the devious shits BAT ( British American tobacco ) were up to in Nigeria.. It is a programme well worth watching. Here is a copy of the video - take a look. Bannatyne is great eye candy - and came to prominence on the BBC's Dragons den series.

Nothing like exposing a company for its duplicity especially if you are already a successful rich bastard and he showed that BAT's actions in Africa are in contravention of its own corporate responsibility mantra of do no harm to kids.

I don't hate all big companies but i don't like devious duplicitous ones that kill kids slowly.

Tonight Sunday will be screening a piece on what is happening here in New Zealand.

So you see Busted Blonde is NOT a single issue chick!

There is more to life than prawns and Winston, fishing, farming, sex, kids, bluff oysters, politics etc....

So watch the programme if you have time - and tell me your thoughts

Sunday TV1 7.30..
