WE ARE EXCELLENT PRODUCERS OF CO2
Overweight people eat more than thin people and are more likely to travel by car, making excess body weight doubly bad for the environment, according to a study from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine."When it comes to food consumption, moving about in a heavy body is like driving around in a gas guzzler," and food production is a major source of greenhouse gases, researchers Phil Edwards and Ian Roberts wrote in their study, published in the International Journal of Epidemiology.
"We need to be doing a lot more to reverse the global trend towards fatness, and recognise it as a key factor in the battle to reduce (carbon) emissions and slow climate change," the British scientists said.
They estimated that each fat person is responsible for about one tonne of carbon dioxide emissions a year more on average than each thin person, adding up to an extra one billion tonnes of CO2 a year in a population of one billion overweight people.
The European Union estimates each EU citizen accounts for 11 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions a year.
What bloody bollocks, its not like we fart like dog or burp like a dairy heifer all day. Thank god we have John Key at the helm - Helen would have instituted a fart tax on fatties on the back of this research. Hell, now she is in the UN , she will be claiming that poor people should stay thin to save the planet from the ravages of global warming!
Where are the economists doing the counter study looking at our high rate of consumerism that helps stoke flagging economies? We should be revered, put on a pedestal ( albeit with a sturdy base) as citizens to emulate. After all we live hard and die quick from the good life. That saves a hell of a lot of hot air.

FRIDAY ROUND UP ON A THURSDAY
Isn't the Tailor of Panama Street a very well informed read?
Why aren't New Zealand spooks as cute or as smart as the ones on the TV series Spooks?
Isnt it great that not many people know that Boulcott St Bistro serves half price Taittengers on a Monday night and don't they do a lovely tripe dish?
Will we see some good Maori appointments onto Government boards in the future?

CLARK GETS UN JOB
For Immediate Release
Clark Gets UN Job
The Trans-Tasman Political Letter reports Helen Clark, NZ's Prime Minister
from 1999 to 2008, is to be named as head of the United Nations Development
Programme.
This is the highest international post held by a NZer since a former Prime
Minister Mike Moore held the post of Director-General of the World Trade
Organisation.
Highly placed sources have told Trans-Tasman the UN Secretary-General Ban
Ky-Moon is confirming the appointment within the next few hours.
The NZ Govt strongly supported Clark's nomination for the job, and John Key
lobbied other leaders as well as insisting the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
and Trade did everything within its means to carry the message of support in
its chain of diplomatic missions abroad.
Earlier, Clark gained a place on the shortlist of three but then major
donors to the UNDP threw their support behind her.
Clark's credentials include not only her experience as Prime Minister but
her leadership on many international issues and the recognition of her role
in the evolution of NZ's anti-nuclear policy.
It is expected she will take up the post later this year. Her departure will
signal the need for a by-election in the Mt Albert electorate which she has
held since 1981.

PM SHOULD NOT BE GLOATY
So bloody what!!! they had to - they had no bloody choice, but to dress it up and serve it as some inspirational strategic move - is to treat voters like dorks and they are not.
I am watching Clark on Breakfast - relaxed and all smiley - cant see why - the polls aren't good, the people are sniffy and she still has to defend a corrupt Winston - that would give me heartburn.
