Anzac Day is fast approaching and we it reminds us of story that we wrote about war that resonated with readers of the Southland Times.
It was about a young bloke from Bluff who's name was simply Boy. He was of the Haberfield clan.
Anyway to our knowledge there has never been an apology from the Japanese for the incident where some spiteful Japanese soldiers murdered nine POW's after the surrender. The men are known as the Palembang Nine.
Anyway today we read that the Japanese have apologised to Australia for the brutal treatment of Australian soldiers in WWII.
We wonder , if it is time that they also apologised in person to the family of Boy Haberfield.
