Cheers for the link BB. Jones and Barker have taken most of the heat for this mess so far, but I reckon Cunners is equally culpable.

But it raises an interesting point; what's the point of departmental officials providing advice to their ministers on matters as serious as these (and these were serious issues), only for the ministers to wing it? Immigration and Internal Affairs would NOT have made the recommendations to the respective ministers lightly.

There is a lingering stench around this case.
