MCULLYAVELLI -

Tracy Watkins from the Dom Post has penned a interesting piece on Murray McCully in the Dominion today. We have worked with him. We have worked against him . We respect him.

This quote from the original Prince is one that perhaps the modern day Minister of the Dark Arts should note.

Men ought either to be indulged or utterly destroyed, for if you merely offend them they take vengeance, but if you injure them greatly they are unable to retaliate, so that the injury done to a man ought to be such that vengeance cannot be feared.
Niccolo Machiavelli

McCully is not as bright or as clever as he and others think he is. I remember holding a half hour conversation with him on a particular topic that he should have known a lot about and it was painfully obvious that the man didn't have much upstairs. Oh, there's a gloss of smartness, but dig a little deeper and you realise he's just not that clever. A friend of mine once said: "McCully's all tactics, no strategy". Man, were those words on the money. He's a feared presence in the party because of this reputation and influence over funding. But he's limited intellect and strategic shortcomings have much to do with the past ten years of National Party isolation. Thankfully, English and Key are smart men. I think (hope) this black dullard's time is up.
