DISASTER TOURISM SHOULD BE BANNED

Over at red alert twerp Chris Carter is tweeting for his life about the devastation in Samoa. Him, and Winnie Laban ( we understand why she would go) jumped on the first available plane and headed to Samoa. Now Carter, the premium disaster tourist is tweeting for all he is worth. He is nothing but a bloody ghoul. And I really hope he didn't take a plane seat that should have gone to some despairing Samoan or medic.

Can he do anything? No. he is an opposition MP. No power to make decisions that matter. It is the worst type of venal cynical politics. Making capital out of the misery of others..

No they have not learned. As far as he is concerned he is still a Minister.
By the way did he take his partner so he could continue to rort my pocket?

I'm assuming that given the extraordinarily generous nature of the Samoan people, they will feel responsible for looking after Carter (and whoever else is with him) out of courtesy and respect. They will be catering for him rather than looking after their own aiga and dealing with the whole horrendous tragedy. Until I see images of Carter picking up dead bodies, searching through rubble, or getting his hands dirty in any way, I find it hard to understand why he is there at all. Cathy

Heh. John Key and Murray McCully are heading over there too. I wonder if this blog will feature scathing criticism of them also?

"I’m urging New Zealanders to donate generously to organisations collecting to help fund the relief effort. Everyone in Samoa is involved in the huge task of cleaning up in the wake of this disaster, but additional resources are sorely needed," Winnie Laban says.

Chris Carter said he would be mucking in and helping with the clean-up and the pair would also be liaising as best as possible between families in New Zealand and Samoa.

Yeah, they sound like terrible people...

come on Rimu - I will believe it when he sends back some pix. He should leave it to the experts.. And McCully and Key should be there - they are going to have to make some very critical decisions about what aid these people really need.

But an opposition MP? give me a bloody break! He would have been better to have donated his airfare to someone who can really make a difference. All he wants is the publicity... Shame on him.

Rimu, the issue isn't whether Carter is over there encouraging people back here to give generously. Or maybe it is. He could encourage just as effectively from here. In fact, he could do better from here. He could arrange events to secure donations. He could get his mincing pooftah mates to stick their hands in their pockets and donate. What he's done is take a seat, and presumable an hotel bed, of someone who could actually do some good over there.
